how do you fix a string on an electric guitar?

the last string (the smallest one) is out. not snapped peresay just snapped out. its an electric guitar that was $89 off ebay, an assassin by bguitars. how can i fix or is it it neccesary to get a professional and if so who?

Every guitar player needs to learn how to replace the strings on his or her guitar. You cannot run to a music shop to have the string replaced in the middle of a gig.

Let me check and see what style bridge you have on your guitar. Then I will get back to you with some instructions. It is very simple unless you have a Floyd Rose bridge. Takes a minute or two.

You have a Fender style tremolo bridge on your guitar I believe. The string loads from the back side of the guitar. There will be a plastic cover the the tremolo spring cavity. There should be a slot or 6 holes in it for the strings to load through.
To remove the old string shove it down from the front side of the body and out the hole in the cover on the back. Now load your new string through that same hole. The string will come out on the front through the saddle. Make sure the string come up through the saddle and not around it. Look at your saddles for the other strings to make sure you have it right. Now pull the string up to the tuning peg. If you have not already done so, move the hole in the tuning peg so it runs up and down with the neck. Turn the tuning peg clockwise to loosen the string or without the string to rotate the hole so it faces down. Clockwise as you look at the neck from the side. Or turn the tuning peg knob towards you to loosen. When the hole faces down, run the string through it. pull it through until this is only a little slack in the string (less than a 1/4 inch of slack). Do not pull the string completely tight. Now take the tag end of the string and bring it back under the main line of the string. That is pull it down on the right side of the tuning peg and go under the string. Now pull the tag end of the string up and over the main line of the string. Hold it while you tighten the string by turning the knob on the tuning peg counterclockwise (away from you). As soon as the string wraps catch the tag end line and grip it, you can release it. Continue to tighten the string some. Occasionally pull the string to stretch it. Grab the string in the middle of the neck or even lower and pull up away from the body and neck. That takes some of the stretch out of the string. Then tighten the string to tune it.

You may have to retune the string a few times when you start playing it as the string stretches out. Depends on how much of the stretch you took out of it while you were putting it on.
