What do I need to do to switch from a natural gas to an electric range?

My stove is malfunctioning and I need to replace it. If I have to I will get another gas stove but could I just get an electric stove and plug it in or is there some adjustment that needs to be done to switch from gas to electric. The store delivers and installs but I’d like an objective answer from someone that does not have something to gain from me such as money for conversions. Thanks for any input.
When I light up one burner the entire top on that side lights and the on and off button overheats and is partially melted so don’t tell me to fix it. That baby has to go-it’s dangerous and I am afraid to use it.
