My guitar loses it’s tuning instantly. One string tightener won’t hold the correct tension. How can I fix this?
As soon as I let go of the string tightener on one string, It loses its tune. The tension on the string is too much. It sounds like shit. How can I get this fixed?
Just so we’re clear….you have one string that won’t stay in tune. All the others strings stay tuned. With this one string, as soon as you let go of the tuner, the string slips out of tune? It sounds like one of two things. You may have the string wound onto the tuner in such a way that it’s slipping. The other possibility is that you have a loose tuning peg. Sometimes they can be tightened up, sometimes there is no fix and you have to replace them. Some tuners have an open back, others have a cover. In either case, there is a gear which is held in place with a screw through the center. Try tightening this screw. It will put more tension on the gear. It will be harder to turn, but will resist slipping. If that doesn’t work, you need to replace your tuners. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners.html
One other thing….you said the string has too much tension…please check and be sure you’re tuned to concert pitch. Electronic tuners are good once you’re close to tuned.
